Thesis printing

Your thesis is your calling card — and it has to be perfect. Gildeprint knows this. We have over 40 years’ experience in printing theses and other book-form publications for PhD candidates at virtually every Dutch university.

With us you can have your thesis printed from 10 copies up to a larger print run. You choose the thesis format, the number of pages, the paper type and the finish. We print on FSC-certified paper — from 90 gsm HVO (woodfree offset) and 100 gsm Biotop to 115 gsm G-print for the best colour reproduction. For binding you choose between glued (Perfectbind, usually softcover) and sewn (suitable for hardcover), in black and white or full colour. Prefer to hand over the layout? We also handle the typesetting of your interior and the design of your cover, and we arrange the ISBN — often within a day — while you deliver your files to us.

With every order you receive a free proof copy before the full run: a printed proof where you can see and feel the paper, colour and finish, and make changes before the rest is printed. You get personal guidance from quote to delivery, with one dedicated contact and personal attention for your project. Once your print-ready file is approved, your thesis is ready within six working days. With every thesis order you also receive free propositions, a bookmark and a guest book.

We aim to be the highest-quality, most personal thesis printer in the Netherlands. Request a no-obligation quote — you’ll hear from us within two working days. We’re only satisfied when you hold a perfect thesis you’re proud of.

How thesis printing works at Gildeprint

  1. Request a quotation. Tell us your page count, number of copies, colour pages and binding preference — free and without obligation.
  2. Submit your files. Upload print-ready PDF files for interior and cover. A PDF keeps your text and layout fixed. Our information booklet and downloads set out the specifications.
  3. Approve your print proof. We produce a single bound copy of cover and interior so you can check the result before the full run — included free.
  4. Print, finish and deliver. Standard lead time is six business days; allow two to three weeks for the full production process, including special finishes.

Choosing your paper

The right paper suits your content — some stocks handle images better, some are less translucent. Three FSC®-certified options:

  • 115 g G-Print — our standard; coated and smooth, best opacity and best for images.
  • 90 g Woodfree Offset (HVO) — uncoated, bright white, light in weight.
  • 100 g Biotop — uncoated, warm ivory tint.

Matte reads better than glossy; thicker paper shows less through the page. See the paper types guide.

Binding methods for your thesis

Perfectbind (milled glued) — the method we use most often. The sheets are milled at the spine and glued to the cover with hot-melt glue. Short turnaround, the most economical option, works with most paper types.

Sewn binding — sections of 4, 8 or 16 pages are sewn with thread, so pages cannot fall out. Very strong, lies flat when open, works with all paper types.

Not sure? See our binding methods guide.
